Educated

Educated  was my book club selection for March/April.  I had been reading a lot of fiction so I was glad to be reading a non fiction book.

The book evoked so many emotions in me like anger, sadness and happiness as I read it. The book is about the life of a young girl who lives in a remote area of Idaho.  She was born to a family of survivalists.  They lived off the grid and their income was from basically junking and things her Mother makes with herbs and such in her kitchen.

No one held the family accountable for the children's education.  Her brother was incredibly violent and while he abused her the other family members turned a blind eye.

But even though she had been kept from attending school she learned to read  and studied everything she could.  The book is her journey of someone who started with nothing, no money, abuse, and no education to a woman with a PHd from Cambridge.  It was an amazing  and inspiring journey to read about.

If you haven't read it yet, consider reading it during this COVID pandemic.
