Waffles have been
around for a long time in fact they might have been around way back to the
1300's. Greeks cooked flat cakes between to metal plates and topped them
with cheese and herbs. The holiday, however originated in Sweden. It
is called Våffeldagen.
There is also a National Pancake Day on August 24th which celebrates the
patenting of the waffle Iron by Cornelius Swarthout of Troy, New York. The patent was approved on August 24,
1869.
So now you have two excuses to eat waffles although I don't know why
anyone would need an excuse. Happy
