Summer Hours at the Robbers Library by Sue Halpern is a delightful, character-driven novel that is filled with tender moments between unlikely companions.
Fifteen-year-old Sunny is caught shoplifting a dictionary which is ironic for a word-loving girl. She is sentenced to community service at the Riverton library. There, she meets Kit, the emotionally guarded librarian, and Rusty, a former Wall Street trader whose life has unraveled. Together, they form a makeshift family, each of them a little broken, each of them slowly stitching themselves back together through books, conversation, and connection.
It is a nice poolside read.
